ABOUT THE FLEECE
Alpacas originate from the High Andes in South America where they were highly revered by the Incas who used their fleece for clothing. Now they are bred throughout the western world for their luxurious fleece, which when processed produces a yarn which is second only to silk in strength and has a hollow fibre structure so that it is light and can be both warm and cool to wear. *An added bonus is that alpaca fleece contains no lanolin and rarely produces allergic reactions on sensitive skin.
Alpacas produce fleece in more than 27 natural shades through white to black. They are sheared once a year and the fleece processed into various styles of fibre which can be yarn for knitting or weaving, or bats or rovings for felting and home spinning.
